What else can I say in addition to previous reviews? My old bathroom lasted 21 years, was still functional but it definitely time to update. I received several opinions and estimates, last was David at 2nd City. Immediately upon leaving my house, I couldn't wait to contact David to sign the contract. My new bathroom is beyond expectation but moreover the level of service was way beyond anything I could have hoped for. On time, on budget and extreme care was provided. David was on site every day and was very communicative. Most of all I wanted the job to be done to ensure it was completed with the highest skill possible and to code. David did not disappoint neither did any of the other workers that he brought into my house. Friendly, caring, skillful and just and overall nice guy! David took on a couple other small issues without hesitation. Extremely pleased and highly recommend 2nd City Craftsmen & Construction. Kinda wish I had a second bathroom to remodel.......
David and his team were first rate.We wanted to renovate our small main-floor bathroom. David explained the process thoroughly and was very responsive to questions through phone and email. It looks great and we are very happy with the results!
I can unequivocally recommend 2nd City C and C for interior rehab/contracting. They know their stuff, are straightforward in the advice and recommendations they offer, and emphasize honesty and ethics from start to finish. When the kitchen/bath/rear porch rehab of a single unit in our 2-flat became a rehab of BOTH units on one day's notice, 2nd City C and C did not blink--they applied a can-do attitude to make it happen for both units on-time and on-budget. And when the job wrapped up and a punch list tally was taken, Rocky was prompt and patient in the requests we made to finish the small items that invariably come up in the weeks following a big job. These fellows, as well as their crew and the very few subs they coordinate with, are there to ensure you're satisfied with the plans you make and the money you pay them for the work you've agreed on. Just can't recommend 2nd City C and C enough! Quality work and a smart, client-centered approach. Nuff said.
We had previously had 2nd city rebuild out front deck and were so happy with the work they did and the relationship we had built with the whole team we did not hesitate to work with them on a second floor remodel.
Second city did a total gut rehab on the second floor of our single family home. This is a huge job including moving stairs to the front of the house and tearing our everything to reinforce the floor joists as our second floor was actually unsafe. We lived at home during the renovation with our two small children and they made it as easy as possible for us even trying to work around our nap schedule as much as possible.
David and the whole team were so considerate of our space and really became part of our family in those few short months. Any sub contractors that had to be used were also very considerate of our home and family and did great work. We trusted everyone that David brought into our home. Once the space was gutted and set to be framed David worked with us to revamp the architects plans so that the space would flow better for our family. During a big project communication is key and David made this relationship effortless.
We will absolutely be using 2nd city again in the future. We are already planning for new hardwood floors on the first floor. We could not be more happy with the results. We feel like our family finally has a home!
We worked with David to enclose the bedrooms in our loft and to add a closet to the nursery/2nd bedroom. The whole experience and process were great and I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a contractor. I'm hoping to use them for our bathroom and kitchen updates.
When we found 2nd City we hit gold. We had a MAJOR renovation done to the first floor of our home. Relocating and building staircases, complete kitchen gut and redesign. Could not be happier with them! They truly love what they do and it shows. They had our best interest in mind and we overcame some serious issues in our 100+ year home. Honesty and Integrity!
Ok you seriously can't get any better than 2nd City! They are fair, honest and trustworthy...also the work is simply beautiful. After interviewing and getting estimates from multiple contractors we are SO lucky to have found David and his team. As you can see they really created magic in our kitchen
Had a great experience with David and team! They priced out our job for us right after we contacted them and they were super accommodating when some personal issue forced us to push back the job almost a year. Both David and Micah gave us honest feedback about ideas which was greatly appreciated. I would certainly hire them for any future jobs!
David and his team helped us with some drywall projects and, importantly, add a stair railing that was completely missing in our 100+ year old house. We contacted 2nd City because we wanted a team who would not just install any old railing, but thoughtfully create one that would complement the house. They did not disappoint - we are thrilled with the outcome! What started as a necessary safety feature is now a beautiful, one-of-a-kind focal point in our home. They are also delightful to work with - were able to start the project earlier than expected...and even found time to humor our little one who was enamored with the construction project and tools!
Can't say enough positive things about my experience with 2nd City. Rocky, David, and the crew that were out were all an absolute pleasure to work with - professional, timely, within budget, and quality work. I had some work done on my residence as well as two rental units (bathroom renovations, dry wall work). Expectations and communication were clear throughout the process. Rocky listened to the specifics of what I wanted done and delivered.
2nd City went above and beyond. They will be my first call for my next project!
My wife is in her third trimester pregnant with triplets so needless to say we have a lot of work to do around the house and little free time to do it ourselves. We hired 2nd City Craftsmen and Construction to do several tasks around the house (mount a flat screen TV, fix a shower door, hang some things in the nursery, fix the front door). Not only did David do a great job with all of these things he also coaxed a smile out of my 4 month old niece in between tasks. It's great to have this kind of service when someone is in your home doing work. I would highly recommend hiring 2nd City Craftsmen and Construction for home and construction tasks. Timely, friendly, and professional service.
2nd City Craftsmen are as good as it gets for any home construction jobs. They are truly gifted. Initially we used them to put up crown molding in our condo. The job needed to be rushed so we could get the painters in. David came thru and squeezed us in right away. The job came out wonderfully and we get compliments all the time. We just hired them again to put up paneling on our garden patio retaining wall. We gave David creative license with the design. We couldn't be more pleased with results. His paneling design has added that WOW factor to our space. We highly recommend 2nd City Craftsmen. You will not be disappointed.
David and Rocky were great! They responded promptly when we first reached out, worked within our schedule and budget, and made sure they did great and thorough work. We asked them to install a sink into a laundry unit, rewire a closet for electrical so that we could install a freezer, and create conduit behind the tv so that we could hide all the wires. They noticed a few issues with our proposed plans and came up with creative solutions (the drain pipes in the laundry room did not properly lead water out of the unit, so they built a platform to place the sink on, thus allowing the water to properly flow out). They also talked with us about different options without being pushy. Importantly, they were always on time, professional, and courteous throughout.
After they completed the project, I raised some questions about the bill and they took the time and energy to review the line items and further reduce the cost, which I appreciated. Plus, they also took additional time to test the electric wiring in our garage at no extra cost when I asked a few questions about lighting. Finally, Rocky even brought his own paint to repair some patch work so that it wouldn't add to the final cost. Overall, the cost was fair.
I've had some bad luck with contractors in the past. They've been non-responsive or did shoddy work. But, we got great service from David and Rock. All in all, both David and Rocky were really knowledgeable and professional. I am glad that I went with them because they got the job done correctly and quickly.
My bathroom was in serious need of a remodel, so I called 2nd City, and David was able to give me a very fair quote. He was also extremely helpful with suggestions in regards to the vintage look I was going for. It turned out that the plumbing in my bathroom was a bit tricky, to say the least, and we had quite a few hiccups with it. With that being said, David and Rocky made sure everything was done and done correctly. They were extremely professional, prompt, and very careful in my home. I was able to completely trust them when I was away work. I highly, highly recommend using them for your project!!! I added a before and after picture of my bathroom in the photos. Thank you so much guys!!
Rocky is an outstanding dude...super friendly, easy to worth with, honest and trustworthy. Totally the kind of guy you would want as a neighbor. We straight up ran out of time trying to reno our house before moving out of state and FULLY entrusted Rocky and his crew to wrap up a few items for us at the house after we had left. Since hubby and I were cash flowing the reno, keeping costs down was an imperative to us, and so we tried to take on as much of the work ourselves as we could (painting, etc.). As we ran out of time and shifted tasks from our scope to Rocky's, he absorbed them easily without a hint of annoyance, and was very transparent with what would be an additional charge (unexpected electrical work), and what could be included without additional costs (mostly everything else). It was such a relief to not feel nickled and dimed during such a stressful period of time in our life. And perhaps most importantly, the work turned out beautifully. The work they performed more than doubled our ROI per the appraisal done at closing (we had had an appraisal done prior to the reno).
I would not hesitate to recommend hiring these guys.
"I Didn't Know My Bathroom Could Be So Nice" Bathroom
We recently had our bathroom renovated and used 2nd City Craftsmen and Construction. We talked with a few contractors before ultimately contracting with Dave. Dave was enthusiastic about our project, knowledgeable, respectful of our ideas & gave his expertise without being egocentric.
As first time homeowner's (and this being our first renovation), we didn't know what to expect. Dave explained the process a head of time and put our worries to rest. He pointed out things we didn't notice or knew we could do. We tried to update the bathroom but still keep it more in line with the early 1900's/vintage style, when it was originally built. We picked out all the materials and Dave supplied the labor and necessary rough materials.
It proved to be too costly and difficult to install a traditional ventilation system with ductwork through the exterior brick wall, so Dave recommend we install an oscillating fan to help circulate the air and dry the tile after showering. It works great!
One of my favorite things is that the tile now goes all the way to the ceiling. Also, it's tiled around the window and the window sill - which is a great place for shampoos and soap. It was a wooden window frame/trim before - which got wet when showering. So, we actually had two shower curtains - made it feel very claustrophobic.
He was also able to save a few of the old shower tiles to patch a few cracked floor pieces (it's the same tile). This was another way he was able to save us some money. Another contractor would have had us remove & replace the entire floor!
Dave started the project while we were out of town on vacation. I had no reservations of letting him work while we were away and also while we were at work.
He was supposed to finish on a Saturday, but some things took a little longer than anticipated. He was nice enough to come back the next day (Sunday) for a few hours to make sure it was fully functional for us. We didn't have a bathroom door, which made things around the house a little awkward considering it's our only bathroom! haha. I can't believe he worked on Sunday - we were very grateful he did.
We're very happy with the results and recommend Dave and 2nd City to friends and family. Thanks Dave!!
We can't say enough good things about our experience. After trying and failing to find a contractor via recommendations from friends and family, we contacted David because of all the great Yelp reviews. We're so glad we did--David and Rocky were incredibly easy to work with, providing the kind of reliability and honesty and communication and friendliness that can seem so hard to come by in this field. We love how our remodel turned out, and much of that comes from finding great people who do great work.
I'm in Logan Square and had 2nd City Craftsmen do several projects around my home. I just purchased a single family home and needed help with some projects.
Bathrooms - Tile, Toilet installation I had them repair two bathrooms that a previous contractor had used the wrong mortar on. That contractor stopped calling me back. 2nd City removed the problem and replaced the tile. My bathroom enclosures work great now!
Main Home - Door Installation, Stair Handrails, Water Softener With a craftsman home we had to find 50 year old doors and custom fit them to replace a few that were missing. They installed stair handrails in a stair way that did not have them. They also installed a whole home water softener.
Attic - Seal Air Leaks, Seal HVAC Ducting I had them inspect my attic and they showed me how I was heating my attic this last winter. The ducting was leaking. They took apart each joint and repaired all the seals. Now I have great air pressure through our vents. Looking forward to not melting snow on my roof and making ice sickles.
Basement - Laundry Room and 3rd Bathroom They installed a soap stone wash sink, Claw foot tub and a toilet in our basement.
They are honest and straight forward. They are a nice change to other contractors I have worked with in the city.
2nd City Craftsmen & Construction did an outstanding job putting a brick tile up in our condo. The whole process was great, David was extremely reliable and very professional. The finished work looks amazing, everything is extremely well done - we couldn't be happier.
We used David and Micah to remodel our "ancient" powder room. We decided to go high end and to make it a beautiful bathroom for guests and us alike. David did not disappoint in any way. He completed the work exactly as promised and his price was very fair. And we found David to be very honest in everything he says and does--something pretty rare these days.
We would not hesitate to use David and crew again for any size job. They knew what they were doing and did it quite well.
We've had a great experience with David remodeling 2 of our bathrooms back to back and some other work around our house. 2nd City CC does a great job responding to questions or issues promptly and setting expectations. We really enjoyed working with David and the team and would recommend them to anyone wanting solid quality work. Our bathrooms look great and are much more functional. We constantly receive compliments and they've become the show pieces when people come to visit.
We used 2nd City CC for a remodel of our bathroom. We scheduled the work a few months before Covid took off and needed to push back out start date a few weeks due to Covid. David and Andrea were very nice and understanding during the entire process. 2nd City was responsive, helpful, and easy to work with on our project. We love how our bathroom turned out - it is better than we could have expected. We would use them again and would definitely recommend them to others for similar projects.
